Engines are the first part every Build and Kill Zombies save should chase, and the only category whose full odds ladder is readable in the in-game INDEX: ten slots, from a near-guaranteed 1-in-3 starter to a 1-in-12,500 endgame pull. This Build and Kill Zombies engines page documents the complete ladder, what engines actually control, and how to budget rolls against each tier.

What Engines Control

Engines set your vehicle's top speed and acceleration — which sets how fast distance income accumulates on every run. Build Mode splits each car into four CAR PARTS categories, and engines are the mobility third of the survival equation: wheels change grip and weight, fuels set run length, and engines decide how quickly the distance counter climbs while the fuel lasts.

The honesty note matters here: only slot 1's name (Small Engine) has been read from footage. The odds are exact — the INDEX displays them — but naming slots 2-10 before the camera reads them would be guessing, and a wrong name is worse than a blank.

How Many Rolls Each Slot Takes

The ladder math is unforgiving as slots climb. Working the independent-roll formula (the same assumption the Index display implies), a 90% chance of seeing each tier takes roughly:

Slot90% confidence
1 in 3~7 rolls
1 in 14~32 rolls
1 in 90~208 rolls
1 in 750~1,728 rolls
1 in 12,500~28,782 rolls

The roll odds calculator computes exact 50/90/99% targets for any slot with your Luck skills applied — Luck II (+20%) and Luck III (+25%) cut every one of those numbers proportionally, which is why the skills guide ranks them first.

How to Roll Engines

  1. Walk to the CAR PARTS roll station (each station shows a counter like "In 20 Rolls" next to a Locked marker).
  2. Open the SELECT CATEGORY picker and choose engines — targeted rolls beat spreading pulls across categories.
  3. Roll until the engine slots fill; results pop up with the part's odds and value.

Engines FAQ

What is the best engine in Build and Kill Zombies?

The best confirmed engine is the Small Engine (slot 1, 1 in 3) — it is the only one named on camera so far. Higher slots exist with much rarer odds (up to 1 in 12,500), and their names land here as the INDEX is read frame by frame.

How rare is the Small Engine?

1 in 3 — the most common engine pull in the game, and it is also granted free by the COMMUNITY code (see the codes page).

Do engines affect fuel?

No — they are separate categories. Engines set speed, fuels set how long the run lasts; a fast engine on an empty tank just reaches the dry point quicker (see wave survival).

Where do I see engine odds in-game?

The INDEX menu shows every category's ladder; the Engines tab is the only one fully unlocked from the start. Unowned slots display as ???.
